WWE Roster Issues

The WWE discouraged me a bunch by bringing back the Authority too soon.  I think from what I gather it's about 70/30 split in my non-scientific pole of people that feel the same the way.  There are definitely some people that enjoy them and the promo's they cut, but I've tired of HHH and I don't like person in power angles anymore.

I totally understood why the WWE did this.  They have a lack of top heels going into an important time of year, so they pulled the ripcord to get back their most hated heel team.  If this is a short term fix for the Mania season I'm ok with it, but anything more than that is a going to really annoy me.  Let's hope it's just a band-aid.

I don't buy into the excuse that the WWE doesn't have enough talent to get through to Mania season.  They really do have enough talent.  There are a million matches they can make between now and then as well.  They just refuse to book and utilize talent like they should.  That refusal has a lot to do with their new "evolved" corporate ways.

Simply looking at the NXT roster alone reveals that their are four major talents that can be thrust into the main roster to boost things quite a bit.  I like the NXT product and what they are doing, but in a lot of cases they are developing guys that don't need to be developed all that much so it's just prolonging their stay down there and making that product insanely good for a minimal benefit.

I know they have plans to bring up Adrian Neville and I think he would be a fantastic fit in the main roster as a heel.  I would start him as a face, but look for a quick heel turn involving Zane who I would bring up as well.  That's right I would make Neville a bit twisted about his loss to Zane and have them make the same magic on the main roster.  There's enough buzz around those two for it to work, why ever have another rematch on NXT?  What's the value?  To those who question bringing up Zane I say why leave him down?  He could probably also work both shows for a while.

I would inject Kevin Owens as the anti-John Cena.  Literally Kevin Owens can do an Nexus like attack on Cena out of nowhere.  The fans don't even have to know who he is.  Owens just needs to walk out with that crazy look and then introducte him after with a simple promo about how he wants to fight and hates Cena.  Kind of like when Austin was calling out Brett and became obsessed with him.  Owens is the opposite of Cena in so many ways.  Even in real life.  Owens tends to be a family guy where Cena wants his freedom in his personal life.  They are tailor made for each other.

Finn Balor is a mega talent.  Crisp in ring worker.  He has been a heel in New Japan and I think he could fall into that spot very easily.  I wouldn't pair him with Owens, but possibly Neville or Rollins.  He could go face at some point, but WWE needs heels for the time being more than faces.  Also adding Zane is a huge lift to the face side of the roster.  Imagine that match up on a bigger stage with a decent story behind it.  Also, Balor versus Bryan would be money.

Balor would benefit from a Cena rub as well.  I think it's wishful thinking to hope that WWE will have Balor and Owens put over by Cena close together, but as much as they have fed to Cena he owes a lot back.  BTW, I don't mean the rub where Cena beats them a few weeks later.  I mean the CM Punk and Bryan rubs where he never gets another shot.  Who are the two guys to get close to Cena in popularity?  The only two guys he didn't squash a few weeks later after losing to them Punk and Bryan.

I agree with WWE if there are any truth to the rumors that Sheamus is coming back as a heel.  He's much better off that way and the heel roster could use the booster from a good worker and mic man.  Orton is probably returning as a face, so it makes sense.

If you look at this roster and move these guys in place you have compelling in ring matches at the worst.  I think WWE could get away from so many rematches like they have had lately and use up a bunch of combinations involving these guys that would be fresh and provide good television.  Ambrose versus all three heels works.  Zane versus anybody works.  Owens versus anybody works.

They have a major booking issue though and that worries me about them handling new talent.  They are overproducing the promos and gimmicks these days.  They are also overproducing the commentary.  That's all the avenues for guys to get over and connect beyond just their look and skill set.  When Vince said he thought guys weren't connecting I don't think he realized how strangled the roster guys feel right now.  I just don't see anyone organically getting over considering how they are controlling those facets so poorly.

Mizdow has been about the most organic talent in the last six months.  He gimmick got over so WWE ran with it giving him and Miz the belts and casting aside the Dust Bros. as if their gimmick wasn't important.  Just this past week they buried them twice in one night probably before they really should have.  So I ask how does anyone get over?

More on that next time.
